Well you say this but my dog doesn’t ever calm down! I’ve waited 45 minutes - 1 hour before to get her out the house but she barks and whines constantly and so loudly that my neighbours complain

I do this and it works. I have 3 large breeds under the age of 2 I put their collars on and they use to go crazy with excitement. I wait for them to calm down now before putting their leads on and go out the door. Love your advice

Such a good video. My current dog had been kept in a box in a shed for 2 years before she came to me. We spend 95% of our walk time standing in the doorway, getting in the car & settling down, then walking around the driveway for a couple of months. She then went from that to an excellent walker in the space of a few more weeks as she was given the time to learn safety and trust.

I do this with my dog, first I make her wait until she’s calm when I open the door then again when I open the gate.. definitely a game changer
