Yes, see, I was right: the song Vanish Into You represents the idea of disappearing into someone else after they have died. I mean, I’ve never seen this movie, but all of the clips on TikTok seem to suggest that Jake Gyllenhaal or whatever his name is dies of something. So, spoiler alert for anyone, but anyway, going back to the Lady Gaga song Vanish Into You: it’s about vanishing into the other person after they’ve passed away, which is why she sings, “Can I vanish into you? Saw your face in mine in the picture by our bedside.” That lyric means that when she was walking past her partner’s side of the bed, she saw a picture of herself. Normally, if two people share a bed, each person keeps a photo of the other on their own side. So, her partner had a picture of her. When she says “saw your face in mine,” it suggests that while looking at that photo of herself, she also saw his face reflected or merged into it because his spirit lingered after death. Instead of fully leaving, his ghost entered the photograph of her that he kept at his bedside. So when she sings, “Saw your face in mine in the picture by our bedside,” it means she saw both of them merged into one image. And when she repeats the line “Can I vanish into you?” later in the song, it expresses her longing to join him to disappear into his memory, or even into his photograph just as he had already vanished into hers.
