Touching on the flat pixel art not appealing to a broad audience, you can see this reflected in nintendo games as well. Despite being pixel art, Mario Maker added shadows/depth to everything, and Mario Wonder is made with 3D models and a lot of effects happen in the foreground.

People are going to take this as “mania 2 was going to do what superstars did but better” when the actual information presented indicates “superstars is basically what mania 2 would have been, just with an art style that would appeal outside the narrow nostalgia focused part of the fanbase”

Sonic Superstars would have been a great game if it weren't for those long, drawn out, Sonic 4-ass boss fights! every last one of them brings the game down for me! I beat the game once, and never again. try to beat Tripp's story and gave up 4 zones in!
