@lee_theocdtherapist: You are not alone. SO many people struggle with dark, obsessive thoughts. But if you found this page, then you found the first step to freedom. Once we’re ready to face fear with exposures and reduce bad habits like compulsions, you will realize you are more powerful than you can ever imagine. Pain is NECESSARY for growth. If you live in FL, UT, SC or NJ- I can book you for a free session to see how I can help. . . . . . #Overthinking #ocd #intrusivethoughts #erptherapy #ocdrecovery

This is horrendous just knowing you have the thoughts and then the guilt that comes after because you can’t believe you’re having them in the first place. And then you’re afraid you’ll act on them even though it’s not you and never has been.

I’ll always remember my first erp session it was so hard to even say my thoughts out loud but my therapist was amazing she sat in silence with me and waited till i was ready. I can’t recommend erp enough I started it back in October of last year and I still have hard days but i’ve definitely noticed a decrease and i even catch myself doing compulsions and can stop (most times) 🙂

It’s so hard to open up to anyone about intrusive thoughts, especially when the online world thinks it’s “I’m gonna chop off my hair”. My ocd thoughts scare the shit out of me and then I feel shame because I can’t control my own mind.

I don’t think I’ll ever share the thoughts that pop up in my head because after I’ll be afraid that I’ll be looked at differently and I’ll never stop thinking about it

When someone has OCD, will SI always be treated as an irrational obsession? Do y’all (therapists) ever get concerned that it’s actually possible for a client to act on thoughts like that?

What ERP trainings for clinicians would you recommend?

The issue isn't the theme, it's the force behind the themes, it shifts, so when I expose myself it goes to something else, and it's a never ending loop.

how does erp work in treating ocd? is it by restricting their thoughts/ obsessions to do the action/compulsions?
