Both brought different elements, and both versions of the band were successful. Roth was a shoman & performer, that style of the band was more rock. Sammy brought melody and was a better singer, but not a performer like Dave. Plus Sammy brought he's own lyrical writing. And that eara became more mainstream. I got into the Hagar era of VH first but both are good in my opinion, and both eras have great songs and albums.
