Yes, the National Guard is our standing militia under the Constitution. They serve both state and federal roles, normally protecting citizens & responding to emergencies. What’s happening in DC (and the other states they'll be deployed to) right now is not normal but still legal. It only becomes illegal if they are ordered to arrest politicians or civilians without cause. In that case, the Guard’s first safeguard is their own training; they are legally required to refuse unlawful orders. The system *assumes* that most Guard members, law enforcement, and courts will refuse to enforce blatantly illegal orders. (Yes, I know the thing about assume.) . Armed resistance is highly dangerous & obviously a last-resort scenario, but is constitutionally accurate- the 🍊/Thiel/Project 2025/GOP/MAGA factions do not believe that non-MAGA are willing or capable of armed resistance- they fully expect full capitulation at all levels.
