@thepaige: This is the story time of how we found out our Frenchie was sick. What started as something that seemed so small turned into the scariest and most expensive journey we have ever been through with her. It began with a little bit of eye discharge, nothing that felt like a big deal at first. We brought her to the vet just to be safe and were told she looked pretty healthy overall. They ran a blood test and when the results came back her white blood cells were very high. That led to a urine test which showed protein and raised concern about possible kidney issues. We booked an ultrasound with a specialist but the earliest appointment was almost a week away. In the meantime her symptoms grew worse. She became so lethargic that she stopped following me from room to room, something she had never done before. She lost interest in food, started drinking water endlessly, and even peed herself in front of me which had never happened. One day at the dog park she actually laid down in the middle of play, something I had never seen in her. I remember sitting there thinking is something seriously wrong or am I just overreacting. By the time we got to the emergency vet they admitted her immediately. They told us things were serious and kept her overnight in case she needed a transfusion. After more testing the next morning they discovered a mass on her liver and based on her CT scan they recommended emergency surgery right away. During surgery they were able to remove about 90 percent of the mass. The surgeons believe it is cancer but we are still waiting on the results to know exactly what type. Right now what matters most is that she made it through and she is doing well in her recovery. What started as just some eye boogers ended up costing over twenty thousand dollars and nearly cost her life.
