The craziest upcharge I’ve ever seen was a venue charging $13.95 per person to serve the cake you bring, bc they put it on a plate with a scoop of ice cream. And that’s apparently worth $14pp

I have a friend who does wedding coordination and the "wedding tax" is one of her biggest pet peeves. Yea, some people might chuck an extra bit on there if the event is a wedding, but generally the reason things are more expensive for a wedding than a normal event is the extra stuff, the behind the scenes. Yea, the flowers are more expensive for a wedding, but thats because the florist specifically chooses the absolute best ones for the bouquet because they want it to be as beautiful as possible. Yea, the event space is more expensive, but that's because of how much extra work the staff need to do to make sure a wedding runs smoothly compared to any other event. Yea wedding cakes are more expensive, but that's because wedding cakes making is a specialised skill that they train in, it's not just like making any other cake (also because they add the wedding tax. It exists 100%, but it's not the sole reason things for weddings are more expensive)

we looked at a venue that didn't come with chairs so we would have to hire our own and they followed that up with 'but you can only use the supplier we choose' 🙃

my wedding reception venue was actually awesome, we had no venue hire fee as they were running a promotion and just had a minimum spend of $4,000... no extra costs and they even decorated the whole place for us with some table runners and placed our flowers lovely

I wonder what would happen if you book it in under “family reunion” instead of wedding. Would they just be mad on the day to see it’s a wedding? Or would they cancel it all and kick you out for lying 😂

We have booked a restaurant floor out for our reception it’s a private floor advertised no hire fee just pay for food and drink. They asked for numbers and now are asking we pay for 10 meals extra than what it would be because I said it’s a wedding reception lol

Something goes wrong at your birthday party, family reunion etc? No problem. Your wedding isn’t PERFECT? Big problem. That’s why it costs more.
