@inspiraggio: Anguish (1878) is one of those paintings that breaks you inside. August Friedrich Albrecht Schenck shows us a sheep in the snow, crying out in pain beside her dead lamb. Around her, the crows wait in silence, almost as if they, too, understand what is happening. What’s striking here is that we don’t see violence, we see emotions. Grief, helplessness, the pure sadness of a mother who can do nothing. And it reminds us of something important: animals also feel, also suffer, and also mourn.
