I would add what someone on reddit pointed out, which is that they have spent forty years getting us to the point that people dont have the ability to go without an income for even a short time. we have no safety nets, either from the state or from ourselves, because we've been wrung out financially. there's no way to get a large strike or anything because no one can afford that. and any republican that brings their hands and says this wasn't the plan is lying, they have wanted to do this for a century

It’s a fantastic analogy, but I think you omit one detail. Everything is in the hands of the cockpit. The ones actually flying the plane. And right now, the pilot is telling everyone things are great, the co-pilot is heard on the radio saying mayday. Half the cabin believes the pilot, half believe the co-pilot. But either way we’re still not landing so something isn’t right…

Very true! I’ll add; if you grew up here, we were taught vehemently that we were better than this, that this could never happen here, to trust our government they would never hurt us. Every one of us has been living in a narcissistic, manipulative place & not all of us have woken up to that reality yet.

An aspect the Author missed is that a lot of people are ready to act but cannot because in the playbook, open resistance accelerates open militarization but this is amazing explaining everything else.

the problem is that several engineers told everyone before this metaphorical flight that there were many disastrous things wrong. they begged everyone to not fly that plane, don't get on it, don't let people you love on it. and still the flight left and the seats were packed.

Theres a silver lining though, even if we completely crash and burn, its the little babies now that will be rebuilding. Its no secret parents have been raising kinder souls. So when they rebuild, it wont look anything like this dumpster fire. Children are the future, always have been.

This is a great analogy. The problem is 2-fold: 1) No one is taking steps to restrain the administration. You at least had a pilot who took steps to try & fix the problem. 2) Someone will read this & say, "See? You all lived! Everything will be fine!"

Yeah my partner is a huge political activist and he’s been outside every day protesting but all I can do is lay in bed constantly and doom scroll or maladaptive daydream or binge eat. I like want to enjoy all these experiences before they might go away.

That, and because we've been engineered into that tiny pocket of wealth disparity that we CANT do anything. We can't rise up, we can't take a day striking, we can't do anything because even one hour less work is the difference between a home and homeless for so many people. We have been engineered into this pocket of low wages where corporations continually raise prices just to find that sweet spot where our low wages are bled dry, just to keep us from doing anything. It's engineered poverty. It's diabolical, and unfortunately successful.
