I don’t understand why you would use ReLU over other functions when it leaves massive flat plains in your loss function that make gradient decent so difficult

Naah bad approach. You need for isolated domains algebraic functions notation from genetic solver. sonethin' like y1:=axn+bxn-1...+c.. XOR sin(x), etc.
