Akan is an ethnic group which consist of other subgroups including Asanti, Bono Akyem Ahanta, Fanti, Nzema, Akuapem, Sewhi,among others. Every Ashanti is an Akan but not all Akans are Ashantis. Not every Twi speaking person is an Ashanti. You are misinforming your followers by interchanging Akans and Ashantis.
