@chasseurdesons: The sound of an anthill 🐜 While hiking in the Dévoluy mountains, I came across an anthill right at the summit, with a stunning view over the surrounding peaks. I stopped to record the activity of ants moving through their nest. 🐜 The colony is divided into three main castes: • Workers They take care of almost everything: digging tunnels, maintaining the nest, collecting food, feeding the larvae and protecting the queen. Some act as nurses, others as soldiers. • Males Their only role is to mate with future queens. Their lives are short, ending right after reproduction. • The Queen The largest ant in the colony, capable of living more than 10 years and laying up to a million eggs in her lifetime. 🎙️ For this recording, I used three microphones: • Two contact mics to capture vibrations inside the nest. • One omnidirectional mic for the higher-pitched sounds around it. #nature #Science #ants #pourtoi #fyp
