O’Leary is a fool. The government didn’t give them any new money for that 10% non-voting stake. It was for the billions previously granted under the 2022 Chips Act, which was provided long before Trump. Would O’Leary rather the government have no stake in a company into which the government has poured billions of taxpayer money?

The government didn’t spend new taxpayer money—it converted already-approved CHIPS Act and Secure Enclave grants into Intel stock. By issuing new shares, Intel got the funding directly. As a result, the government now owns about 10% of Intel but has no board seats or active control.
