Psalm 22 was also written hundreds of years before Jesus was even born. It was also written hundreds if years before crucifixion was even developed. So the words that David wrote are even more prophetic than most people realize.

Plus in that moment, Jesus had taken on the sins of the world. And God cannot look on sin. Once he defeated sin in the grave and rose from dead victorious then he could reunite with the Father.

Jesus asked “My God My God why have you forsaken me?” Because at that moment he felt his Father look away, for the first time Jesus had to go throught this ALONE!! you see God had been there with him every second of his life but at this moment Jesus had to go through it alone so that the full purpose of his sacrifice can be fulfilled, so God had to look away and Jesus felt it 😭 after he continued, “IT IS FINISHED, IN YOUR HANDS I COMMEND MY SPIRIT” !!!! In the end It was Jesus alone who willingly gave his life for us 😭😭 GLORY BE TO MY LORD JESUS CHRIST FOREVER AND EVER 😭🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻

Reality is, in first century Hebrew culture. It was common to quote the first line of scripture and the listeners would know the whole piece of scripture being referenced. The people of the time knew he was quoting Psalms 22 and the gravity of the claim.

It would really blow people‘s minds if you tell them not only was He quoting scripture, He was there when it was written more than 400 years before that. The same yesterday, today, and forever— since the very beginning!

Jesus asked this because in that moment he was taking all of God's wrath for humanity onto Himself. In that moment, he couldn't feel God. That is what eternity in hell will feel like. We will no longer feel God. Thank God for Jesus' sacrifice. Thank God for grace and mercy! 🙌🏻

And when the Psalm was written it was a foreshadow of the Son of God Jesus Christ.

Yes, it was the Hebrew tradition that if you wanted your students to recognize a certain verse or chapter you would quote a line or image so the student would reflect back on the chapter. Jesus does it a lot because He wanted us to reflect back on specific chapters to gain a bigger understanding of what was happening.

I was taught that it was because on the cross he suffered EVERY illness and affliction, mental physical and emotional and at that moment he was experiencing the feeling of separation from God.
