Reading slump cure unlocked. Ego Destruction by Drenn Solace is light on fluff and heavy on implementation. The passages on separating behavior from identity and earning rest hit hard. If you want a book that follows you off the page this is the one.

Is it possible to defend classic literature is like asking is it possible that water is good for you

As cheesy as it sounds classic literature really is a time capsule. The ideas, the language used, the culture shared in these novels are one of the closest things we get to understanding that time period.

Literature is for everyone. The moment you read something that genuinely moves you, pretentioussness dies. People who argue otherwise are ignorant in my opinion.

I believe classics are stimulating for some. I think people avoid them due to the stereotype that all classics are boring. Which seems to be a semi recent idea. Do you think that people in the early twentieth century found older works of literature boring? Or do you think that it has more to do with our perspective on literature changing?

I just started reading consistently this year. Before this I didnt read at all. I started with Roland smith “Peak” which is a children novel. I got hooked and started reading classics. I can’t get engaged with classics as much but I’m gonna keep reading it.

Classic literature can be fantastic or it can be boring. The quality isn’t the issue. The true issue is the air which surrounds it. Take them off the pedestal and judge them as works of art. Once I did that I loved a lot of classics way more than

This video reiterates the comment I sent you about teaching literature. You should do it, you are very clear and concise in your delivery on ideas, thoughts and reasoning about literature. You remind me of a couple of professors that influenced me.

It gives humanity to history. Feel like there's always a feeling that people dehumanise the past when talking about it. Classics let you feel the past

Nah i reading classic literature only to learn sum new words, that's all, but i have something to say, NOT ALL CLASSIC LITERATURE IS GOOD, bro i literally read more than 135+ classic books, and i liked over a 50-40 that's messed up, so of course i understand someone who hates it

I think that people just avoid any pleasure that requires even a little bit of time and effort in favor of more simple and immediate things. For me, not being to enjoy something like Anna Karenina is just missing out on a big part of life. Your life is just so much poorer when you miss out on books like that. It’s like somebody who just coasts through life only by eating steak and chips (we all know somebody like that). He says that’s what he likes and he is happy like that, but we know how poor his enjoyment of eating has been in life.

Classics are simply those that have stood the test of time and remain in print and widely read long after first written. Like you said, current classics weren't the only ones published at the time. To give a prime example, in one of George Orwell's novels - Keep The Aspidistra Flying - there's mention of an author called Hall Caine. I'd never heard of him so looked him up. Turns out that in the late 19th/early 20th century he was just about the most popular writer in English. Indeed, one of his books was the first to sell over a million copies. However since his death in the 1930s he has faded from public knowledge. Why? Because as popular as his books were in their day, that didn't mean they were any good.

It changed everything for me. Read Anna Karenina, The idiot, The portrait of Dorian Gray, East of Eden, Chess story since. I love classics now. And there's so much to learn from it. My TBR is so full and each book is exciting is sure to not disappoint.

Crime and Punishment made me absolutely fall in love with classical literature. I read it some six months ago and have been devouring classics since.

Agreed. Classic literature personally also helps me understand historical periods much better in terms of ideas, people, culture and progression which my history books at school could never make me be as immersed.
