Hard time feeling your chest with push-ups or bench press? You'll LOVE this low-pulley push-up setup. The cable weight is constantly trying to pull your hands out from under you WHILE you're doing push-ups. This means you have to contract your pecs HARD isometrically while at the same time using them to move yourself in a push-up. You're gripping onto a pair of single handles and doing push-ups on your knuckles (which is why I have the foam mat here - you can use a gym towel for padding, too). It's absolutely brutal and incredibly effective for muscle activation and tension development. For setup, I found the best way to go is to grab one handle and keep it in close to your body, then grab the other one and get it in close, then kneel down and set your fists on the ground just a bit outside shoulder width in a neutral grip position. Then get into push-up position and start repping. Start light the first time you try this one to get an idea of how to best get into position. Then you can move up in weight pretty significantly from there (I'm using about 100 lbs on each side here). When you're working lighter, you won't feel the same amount of tension trying to pull your arms out from under you...as you go heavier, you will REALLY have to fight to keep your fists in place. With the weight I'm using here, my fists were actually slipping out a tiny bit on each rep. If you want to really have some fun and you're strong enough, have a partner add some weight onto your back and do weighted push-ups in addition to the cables. I've tested this with a sandbag on my back... it's a challenge to get into position without a spotter, but it's doable and VERY effective. I'll have to repeat this with a weight vest. #pushups #cablecrossovers #chest #chestactivation #chestworkout
