Media convinced White ppl they don't have culture that we ended up not having pop/punk rock music anymore to jam with😔. Punk rock was basically white music culture.

To be honest, this sentiment is so annoying. Rock music isn’t ‘their’ culture; it’s a multicultural genre that has roots in blues and African American communities. If you want to tell White rappers who pretend to be a part of a culture group they are not while rapping to stop perpetuating harmful stereotypes and adopting inauthentic sounds, that’s great, but there’s no need to say that they shouldn’t rap or should start making ‘rock’ music. I believe the fake accents and stories as well as utilizing gimmicky imagery can be a genuine problem for the future of hip hop. I also believe that the overconsumption and bastardization of hiphop is a concern, but solving it is not by replacing one popular style of music with another. Rock was the popular genre in the US, especially among the youth, for decades until hip hop took its place. However, we rarely highlight the non-white artists that helped pioneer genres of rock. An example of this can be the popularity of Tina Bell in contrast with Kurt Cobain not only for the ‘grunge’ sound, but for their overall contributions to rock music. Segregating wide-ranging genres based on race is just another way to perpetuate racism and erase the contributions of a diverse set of people.

this is lowk weird ngl 💔 this is implying pop punk and other genres similar to this is for white people when rock was literally founded and created by black people 😭 imagine telling a black guy to stop making emo music and and embrace his “culture” of rap or something
