How to shop vegan at Lawson in Japan👇🏻 💚 Hi, I’m vegan nutritionist itadakihealthy, living in Tokyo for 11+ years 💚 How to be vegan in Japan? 👉🏻Grab your copy of “The Ultimate Vegan Guide for Japan!” 140 pages packed with vegan info (last updated January 7th, 2026) 💚 OR just book a vegan shopping tour with me! 😍 👉🏻 All links in bio 👉🏻Except for the salted rice balls, all other onigiri at Lawson contain fish extract, even if it’s not listed on the label. (I contacted customer service about this in autumn 2025.) 👉🏻 The pre-made bento boxes are never vegan, so it’s best to mix and match: for example salad, tofu, rice & nori. Other important disclaimers: ❗️“Vegan in Japan” Is very ambiguous and most of the time it is difficult to understand a product’s true nature in terms of ingredients. Even products labeled as “plantbased” can contain animal derived ingredients. ❗️Accidentally vegan products are subject to potential contamination during production (for example the hash browns are most likely fried in the same oil as the meat, but the oil is vegetable oil.) ❗️ While the main ingredients in the products are seemingly plant-based, secondary ingredients might be animal based or used animal based processing. A good example is common white sugar in Japan, as it’s usually whitened with bone char. ❗️ There are still mystery ingredients in many products, such as flavoring (調香料), or certain added vitamins (such as vitamin D), which can potentially be sourced from animal derived ingredients. But without contacting the manufacturer directly, it’s not clear what they contain/how they are sourced. ❗️ Most of the mainstream products contain palm oil, even vegan labeled ones. ❗️ A „may contain dairy“ warning on the package doesn’t always mean, that there is actually dairy in the product itself. It’s just a warning for those who are allergic and need to be extra cautious about this. 🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱 #vegan #vegantravel #veganinjapan #vegantokyo #konbini
