Nothing fixes kids being off task like tempo. If you give them 45 minutes to write a paragraph you can expect them to take 37 1/2 minutes to do nothing. Tempo tempo tempo.

If you do well in direct instruction, it isn’t an issue. It requires management within the direct instruction. Adding in discussion, student tasks, etc.

my loudest class for the first week of school got immediately quieter when I let them work instead of lecturing. I was lecturing about rules which I felt was important, but there was a NOTICEABLE difference between that class at work and that class when I'm giving long-form instruction

And that’s why we like Eduprotocols. Kids walk in and you say fast and curious go, that takes six minutes then you say thick slides go, that takes eight minutes, then you say cybersandwich go, and that takes 25 minutes and you don’t have to instruct them I’m at work looks like. Is there a direct instruction? But it comes in a little bit in 20 minute chunks
