the coens need to get back together. drive away dolls was not good and hearing that this one is worse is making me sad that such talented filmmaking is lost

louder for the people in the back!! like imagine how good this and drive away dolls could’ve been if directed by A WOMAN! i loved the vibes and acting in both of them, but they felt so male gaze-y for allegedly sapphic noir movies

i fear the coen brothers really need to get back together. they’re both far worse off without the other

As a lesbian, couldn’t agree more. The lesbian representation felt performative. I actually think Aubrey and Margaret have more chemistry in real life than in the movie.

it felt like an hour and half of "look how beautiful Margaret Qualley is, and how many nice white shirts she has."

i love that the attitude of the film presents Honey o’donohue as the best detective in the biz only for her to solve exactly 0 crimes

it's "representation" is rainbow capitalism flavored. it feels like it's trying to profit off of the lesbian image without contributing anything to the queer community. it's exploitative. Coen and Cooke are basically the straight couple at pride looking for a unicorn.

It’s all style, no substance. The story was convoluted and ultimately kind of pointless. A great cast wasted on a bad movie

As a lesbian, I hate to say, MOST lesbian media is trash. We have gotten some better films/shows the past few years but most shows get cancelled after 2 season so they don’t get the chance to really thrive which is so upsetting! And then the movies, well, we are getting some better ones but still not enough 😭 we need more lesbian media that won’t get cancelled that’s also been written by actual lesbians with lived in experiences. We can tell when it was written by us, vs if it was written by a hetero woman or man who is writing what they think lesbians are like and they ALWAYS miss the mark. We need more lesbians in the behind the scenes as well on screen.

and im sorry but the fact that margaret qualley said she used MATTY HEALY (of all people) as inspiration for her role as a LESBIAN WOMAN is just so……

agree so much about the intimate scenes! i felt really uncomfy with the emphasis on the toys they used throughout the movie and the constant reassurance of “she might be a lesbian but don’t worry men still do find her hot!!!”

The movie set up felt like it could have been a great movie. And then it was just um… nothing. Nothing really worked in the second half.

I have no desire to speculate on their personal relationship but the trilogy so far feels so male gaze-y that the fact she is a lesbian married to a straight man feeds into it.

After Drive Away Dolls I don’t have much faith in this. Ethan clearly need Joel more than Joel needs Ethan

The thing that was most disappointing for me is that I was EXCITED to see it and it just missed the mark. A whole storyline ended up being completely pointless, WHY?

this movie was bizarre because it sets up two running plotlines that don't merge like, at all

honestly I used to love the coen brothers too but when I watched "ballad of buster scruggs" for the first time it really clicked for me that they don't seem to care about women's stories that much. it's always the woman, as perceived by the man.
