Not a chance they’re still in Colorado. We have millions of hikers, campers, hunters and anglers out every summer and would have had some level of human interaction.

I’ve seen some HUGE black bears with brown fur (but no hump) in the San Juans and wouldn’t be surprised if people mistook them for grizzlies.

Read " Ghost Grizzlies " or " Lost Grizzlies ", some pretty strong evidence that a few may have been around in the 90's. I have been in the south San Juan's several times over the years specifically where the Wiseman bear was killed and have seen some interesting tracks but the only bears actually seen were black bears ...

Lived experience of bears in Montana is that if there were grizzlies in an area you’d know about it pretty quickly. Theyre not like mountain lions they don’t hide, they meander around in often open spaces and just kinda vibe up until you walk up on them.

These comments are ridiculous and fantastical😂 I was talking to a ranger while fishing this weekend and he was telling me he believes there’s on in the San Juans because of that clip. Nice guy, but that’s simply insane. There are absolutely not grizzlies in Colorado. Millions of hikers, hunters, campers, anglers, etc and zero clear evidence of tracks, scat, scrapes, kills, much less a live animal? And the idea that “they came down from WY?” Is that just because CO borders WY?! Look at a map of where they live in Wyoming vs where they’re claiming they are in Colorado. 600+ miles, a lot of which is plains and absolutely not grizz habitat. That migration would make no sense, and would absolutely be witnessed somewhere along the way. Folks in CO want it to be true because it makes CO sound cooler. It’s already a cool place lol doesn’t need the help. AK, MT, WY, ID have them. Full stop.

I live in the San Juans and myself and family have been all over these mountains. they are here... no we shouldnt bring in more... why? the wolves is an expensive disaster and our state is in serious debt.

Years ago I was out hiking when a random person screamed "GRIZZLY!" There was a group of forest rangers near by. Watching 5 adults trying to properly pronunciat "cinnamon bear" at the top of their lungs is the funniest thing ever 🤣

I met a guy years back that said he photographed a grizz in the northern part of CO near the Wyo border (in the brown spot on your map). He showed me the pics, but he could of taken them anywhere and I didn't know what to make of his story. He was adamant it was from that location. His story has always stuck in the back of my mind. Growing up here I've personally only seen 3 black bears in Colorado total.
