You’re using that tool wrong, you’re supposed to tighten that big nut as you go and it will pull against the valve.

If you tighten that nut with a wrench the cartridge will pull right out that’s what it’s made for not to just yank on it

spin it first. cut the tabs off cartridge and turn. the rubber seals get heated during installation. lots of bad plumbers out here.
