New Zealand to Fiji 🌺 UPDATE ⬇️ Hi everyone. It feels like I’ve been away for a long long time. This past season in New Zealand has been incredibly challenging. Physically, it’s been a huge strain refitting Songbird, replacing her engine and getting her ready for the next leg of our circumnavigation, especially as it will be a few years until I’m in a developed country where major boat work can be done without high import fees for equipment and materials. Mentally, I’ve struggled quite a bit feeling so sedentary. Spending 6 months in the exact same spot without being able to explore much doesn’t suit me and this terrible angst that lives behind my sternum becomes consuming at times. When I am moving forward it abates. Emotionally, I’ve had big highs and lows. Lexi joining the mission has been incredible. For the first time since I’ve left Seattle, loneliness hasn’t haunted my daily experience. My difficulties in this category lie with my ever evolving complicated relationship with social media. I’ve said it before, but I left Seattle on my small and simple vessel to get away from the negative and addictive effects that the internet held over me. I know that I’ve lost years of my youth to mindlessly scrolling reels and slogging through meaningless YouTube videos. The happiest and healthiest I’ve ever been has been during weeks at sea where I don’t have the ability to communicate with anyone on shore. Unfortunately, this impulse is rather non compatible with my other responsibility as a “travel influencer” (or whatever I am lol) Despite my periods of long absences on here, know that I am incredibly grateful for the interest in my journey and I am so lucky that I get to share my experiences and stories with such a large audience. Soon, we will be in Fiji, in my happy place (small tropical nations) and I can’t wait to share the adventures ahead. Thanks everyone. #fyp #foryoupage #sailing #ocean
