Every wash, every burial I have done, I see the same thing: the feet pointing down. A reminder of what the Prophet ﷺ told us, that the soul begins its departure from the feet and rises upwards. It is not an easy departure — the soul presses out, and every person strains differently in those final moments. This brother, may Allah have mercy on him, woke up that morning, put on his socks like any other day, not knowing they would be removed later on the table where he would be washed. His wife kissed his feet and hands in farewell, a sight that moved me deeply. I washed him with the same care and love I washed my own father and every believer — from the heart, with honor, and with dignity. He was a man beloved by his community, a man of faith, a man of goodness. When we buried him, he was laid to rest with a smile that will stay with me forever. May Allah grant him the highest station in Jannah, forgive his sins, and make his grave a garden of Paradise. “Every soul shall taste death. And only on the Day of Resurrection will you be given your full recompense. So he who is drawn away from the Fire and admitted to Paradise has attained success. And what is the life of this world except the enjoyment of delusion.” (Qur’an 3:185)
