Mercury is heavy. It sinks to water body bottoms. Sardines spend most of their time near upper surface of water bodies. Among other fish that bottom dwell in salt water, large Bluefin Tuna that swim deep and Wild Salmon that dive for shellfish have Mercury exposure.
