I’m learning it’s not as “kinky or freaky” as it may seem to us Westerners. Dignity, modesty and PDA boundaries is highly valued in Japanese culture so if couples want privacy (because home walls are paper thin and the may live with multiple generations) they can rent a room to share private moments.
