@_cookievlog: Read my story with me In 2015, my dear mother, an unshakable advocate for girl child education, sent me to the Philippines to study. Even though she herself never had the privilege of formal education, she swore that her daughters would not be denied the opportunities she was denied. At that time, the value of the naira still had some strength, and truly, it took a mother of courage and sacrifice, an Odogwu in her own right, to invest everything she had into my education. She risked her comfort, and even her life, just to ensure we had a better future. After several trials and temptations, I finally arrived in the Philippines. I enrolled in school with so much hope, passion, and determination. But life, as unpredictable as it can be, struck me hard. Within a semester, circumstances became unbearable, and I was forced to drop out. That was how I transitioned from being a student with lofty dreams to a full-time “babysitter.” Please, don’t ask me whose baby I was babysitting, that chapter is best left between me and God. But let me be clear: dropping out of school did not kill my dreams. If anything, it fueled them. I am, and will always be, a lover of education, an enthusiast who believes that knowledge is not confined to classrooms.
