I spent the night in a Buddhist temple here, and it was one of the most unforgettable experiences of my trip! From walking through Okunoin Cemetery lit by stone lanterns, to sleeping in a traditional tatami room, every moment felt absolutely unreal. Dinner was shōjin ryōri (精進料理), a traditional vegan Buddhist meal that was both beautiful and surprisingly filling 🍵 The next morning, I joined the monks for their chanting and meditation. The calm, the rituals, and the mountain air created a spiritual atmosphere I’ve never felt anywhere else! If you’re visiting Japan, a temple stay in Koyasan is something you absolutely cannot miss!
