@dwnews: Uranus is a cold, windy ice giant that has no true surface and is mostly made up of swirling fluids – so there’s nowhere for a spacecraft to land!
The planet’s blue-green color comes from methane gas in its atmosphere.
Discovered in 1781, Uranus was the first planet found with the help of a telescope. Fun fact: The guy who discovered it, astronomer William Herschel, wanted to name it Georgium Sidus after King George III. Instead, it was named for Uranus, the Greek god of the sky.
A lot of what we know about Uranus stems from the only “visit” a space probe has so far made to the planet – the Voyager 2 flyby in 1986.
