It's extremely easy to fix the housing crisis in America. 1. Corporations cannot purchase single family homes. 2. Only allow owner occupied mortgages. No more Black Rock. No more rich people buying up properties just for Airbnb. Done.

Sounds like a bad idea because then every extra bedroom becomes a home office or gym…also if the state or government comes into your home to enforce a tax on unused bedrooms that’s kind of the whole point of several amendments…

They need to tax empty houses not rooms.

This is only going to hurt poor and middle class. also how do you enforce it? We need to get rid of career landlords and add a 100% property tax to people/companies own multiple homes for "investment"

Office, family room, hell even closet. Yeah not gonna work. It’ll work on the poor and middle class after a child moves out but the wealthy will find a way to live in mansions without the tax.

People will just classify rooms as offices or renovate so that space does not fit the classification of bedroom

Curious though, what about parents whose kids move out? Like those rooms were occupied but of course they become freed up? Like all my stuff is still in my old bedroom but I only sleep there when I visit otherwise it’s unoccupied. (I do like the idea though)

I wonder how this will work for rentals. like your tenant leaves, is it then taxed?

how he had to phrase it in a question toward the end confirms he doesn't believe what he is saying. taxing something has never lowered the cost to the consumer.

Cool. So governments finally admitting that taxes the de-incentivizes what it taxes. Now can we get rid of tax on labor?

Out of every idea I’ve ever heard…. That causes more problems than it solves… as much of a free market enthusiast as I am… it actually works…

they just have to make it unliveable like remove the bathroom/toilet and bedroom doesn't matter after that

GK :
This is a terrible idea without nuance. The tax only applies to owners with more than one home and increased by every home you add. The issue isn’t people owning large homes. The issue is not being able to afford homes.
