My husband tried to find shoes in Japan but he's a UK size 14-15 we had one shop worker go and get his coworker to show him the size of his feet 😂 was both hilarious and embarrassing 🫠

I’m an old American woman. When I was a kid all shoe stores did this as well, into the mid 90’s. Now it’s just chaos. I miss getting fitted for shoes.

When I was a child in the US they did this, but with the trend away from quality and towards big box bargain stores, this type of service disappeared. In the US, you still get this service in a high end, expensive shoe store, but not where most people shop. To be fair though, in Japan this is more common, especially in name brand shoe stores like Merrill and Clark's, but if it's a typical store that simply sells shoes it tends to be self serve unless you request service. Having worked retail--a ski shop, computer store--the value for me as a retailer is to make sure things don't get damaged or put back as a mess.

Actually they dont do that. i also bought shoes in JP before and mostly they do advice on what to lookout for best comfort. Other than that, its subjective.
