After watching this video, I seriously started wondering for the first time: will machines eventually replace welders completely? To be honest, I already use welding robots in my factories and automatic welding machines on storage tank construction sites. But I’ve always felt that machines can be pretty demanding—the groove preparation needs to be right, fit-up needs to be accurate, and joint gaps need to be relatively consistent. Once conditions become more complicated, an experienced welder has often been more reassuring. But today, seeing equipment perform automatic root welding even with uneven joint gaps genuinely made me think. Machines are no longer simply repeating welds along preset paths. They are developing toward sensing actual joint conditions, adapting to gap variations, and automatically adjusting welding parameters. What will this mean for structural steel, storage tanks, piping, and pressure vessel fabrication? I’m not ready to draw a conclusion yet. But one thing is becoming increasingly clear: the “irregular” conditions that machines once struggled with were exactly what experienced welders were best at handling. Now, machines are gradually learning to handle them too. Will machines completely replace welders in the future? I don’t know.
