@therealcaptainchris: Sleeping Giants in the Mojave Desert Driving through the Mojave desert, you first see their silhouettes shimmering in the heat. Tails like cathedral spires, wings stretching wider than highways, and then suddenly, they’re there: the largest passenger airliners ever built, standing silent in the desert sun. Giants waiting for tomorrow. For an avgeek, it’s breathtaking. You know the numbers, the wingspans, the power of those now silent engines… but nothing prepares you for their sheer presence. The word “awesome” really means something amongst these giants. As a pilot, it’s humbling. I’ve flown some of the aircraft parked here, felt their power, guided them across oceans and continents. To see them now, lined up in stillness, feels like visiting old friends in retirement — majestic, monumental, yet still commanding respect. This is aviation’s Valley of the Giants.
