I would go for full mental breakdown. Wanted to go away for good (escape an imaginary threat) so took the ring off. Bought a plane ticket maybe to throw off the imaginary threat, like a false lead, or maybe just changed his mind, then ended up driving until the car broke down, then walking in the middle of the road with self unaliving intent. Which happened, and it was a hit and run. That's my theory.

I'm shocked no one is suspicious of the mother and daughter. They were gone when he went missing, he took his ring off, it just doesn't seem like a coincidence to me. Sounds like he was trying to run away for a reason.

Hmm given that he was an attorney, maybe he may have received a threat. Seeing as they only identified him a decade later, there may not have been much to work with in terms of witnesses or evidence, e.g., whoever threatened him got rid of any evidence of it or whatever evidence they had didn’t correlate to him being in danger but rather him just disappearing

its likely schizophrenia. usually only show symptoms in your late teens or early 20s but it can only start show in your 30s, 40s or even 50s. which causes paranoia, erratic and unusual behavior and alot more.
