I almost never give 5 stars, for me 5 stars is a way of seeing what my favorite movies of all time are. But I give 4,5 stars for movies I really enjoy or movies I think about a lot. Like I gave Kneecap (2024) 4,5 stars because it was really fun to watch, but also Häxan (1922) because I have thought about that movie constantly for 6 months & I love womens history and witches. There is no right or wrong way of rating movies.

Just use it however you want to. Just because a film is revered or considered a classic doesn’t mean you have to give it a good rating if you genuinely didn’t enjoy writing it. And vice versa if you enjoy something that isn’t an arthouse piece then give it a high rating if you want to. Its your account and it should reflect your opinions no matter what they are

Just use your own scale or whatever. I try to rate films based on how good they are at doing whatever they’re trying to do, sometimes they’re just trying to be entertaining

Look, I'm literally working on making film critique my career right now. But on my letterbox I don't use any criteria but my own. What I like, what I enjoy, whatever petty reason I don't like a movie. And this is coming from a filmmaker. At the end of the day, nobody can decide what you enjoy but yourself. have fun with it.
