I was recently researching Lee Harvey Oswald's time in Russia and one of the complaints he supposedly had was his awful apartment and lack of ability to find a new place. I thought it was odd because I figured all apartments in his factory town were likely similarly awful. The Russians had a pay scale depending on how skilled you were as a worker. Some people got paid more and had nicer apartments and everything if they were a more skilled worker or if they did a job that required more education and responsibility. The idea that in communism everyone gets the same thing is the child's version.
