Are these art businesses LLCs or S-corps? Or sole proprietorship?? Isn't there a big difference???

don't common things to deduct that people don't know about: 1/3 rent and utilities, office supplies, furniture, general supplies (including makeup of you do a lot of looks), medical supplies, some gas depending on how much you travel for work/supply runs

just remember, it's 15% of your PROFIT not 15% of your sales or service.

If I make an average of $500 a month selling art, but make no profit, how much do I owe?? Like I think even with my commissions I’m down like $250 a month

Make sure to put %25 or %15 of every income you make away. Put it away and then submit it to the IRS as “estimated tax” every quarter !!! You will be charged around a $200 fee for missing a quarter payment throughout the year. I used to pay the entire amount of what I owed at the end of the year and I still got that fee because I didn’t pay anything throughout the year 🙄

thank you for this! taxes have definitely stopped me from actually pursuing art as more than an occasional meal ticket (i’m always careful to stay under taxed amount). it’s wild artists get taxed more than amazon. keeping track of expenses is hard but a must to deduct as much as possible 🥲

It would also be noted … you paid this as an employee too…it was just call social security tax and the employer would pay half. And it needs to be paid quarterly.
