@nikki_lanier: A question for my white brothers and sisters who are now becoming more acutely aware of the extent to which racism, both as a system and a belief, informs policy and preservation in our country in ways that many hadn’t experienced before, but are now absolutely experiencing firsthand. #racialequity

We’ve all gone without universal health care, free university education because of racism. The loss in my life and hardship and trauma it created is immense

As a white woman, it’s diminished my sense of pride in my country, my hope for a future that’s better for everyone, my trust that others will not be driven by fear and selfishness, and so many uncountable opportunities to connect with a diverse array of people 😞

It has stolen my ability to connect fully with the moms I serve as an early interventionist. How can there be trust when as white women we have been a threat again and again to black women and their families.

YT woman here. Racism has stolen so much from everyone in general. It makes me sick and so angry and also sad. I’m trying to imagine a life without racism present in our society. It’s difficult. I think there would be so much more diversity and sharing of family cultures and traditions if we weren’t still socially segregated. I would love to see more mixed groups of people hanging out together. I live in the South so it’s probably even more rare here to see that. My partner and I are gunning to move from here when our kid finishes high school so we can surround ourselves with more like minded people.

I believe that racism has stolen the ability to have made deeper friendships or even new friendships with people I wanted to know better. On their side because of the fear that they couldn’t really trust me or that I couldn’t understand them and on my side from knowing I was not often perceived as a friend and as I got older, understanding the reasons for that. Also knowing there will be times and situations as my child grows up that I won’t be able to truly understand. She asked me the other day if she was white (she is Native American on her father’s side) and I said “no baby, why?” And she said “just curious” and that was the end of the conversation, but I wondered why she asked. I remember when she was around five and she told me she didn’t feel beautiful because she didn’t look like me and it broke my heart. Obviously I did a lot of research and talking to other mothers and getting their advice and I got a lot of wonderful advice. But it is things like that I know it’ll be hard to navigate, especially if she gets older. It was never a thought in my mind that she would ever think that when I was pregnant.

Wonderful video!! Thank you! (Any chance you want to re-record/post? I think you mistakenly say that the belief that black & brown people are inferior “must be PRESERVED” at all costs near the end… but I may be misunderstanding (?) Thank you for your brilliant work!

As a woman with severe melanin deficiency, a genetic condition (as I heard on TikTok), racism has stolen from me the diverse community I thought existed as a child. It stole my peace, sense of self, and the comfort of knowing that my best friend was equal to me in all ways. It continues to break, no, shatter my heart over and over every single day. It is the root of most of the systemic evil in this world. I testify to the world that this is my truth and I will not be silenced.

As a non-practicing white woman, a phrase I learned here on TikTok, I can say that From me and my day-to-day living nothing. Despite that fact, I know I have the privilege and duty to use my voice and my actions to support those people without my privilege.

Growing up in Seattle and seeing First Peoples exhibits in museums and wondering and marveling over them and wanting to go back to the museum again and again. Then as an adult, realizing that all of that could’ve existed outside of the museum walls today if not for racism.😞

I need time to completely unpack this question. my very 1st response, as a white woman, is that it took love from me. i love and never felt the hate that my family tried to pass on, dont get me wrong, but growing up, i missed out on love as a young girl, for fear of disappointing my racist family. im not sure if i am explaining myself properly but, i know i missed out on love... on all levels.

As a WW having to watch systemic racism tear people down and not being able to do a damn thing about it. Terrified of what will happen next, for others, from the comfort & security of simply being born at the right time & place (& parents). POWERLESS to stop hate (save the occasional blatant action I can call out).

Racism has stolen education, healthcare, safety, and a livable wage, community, and culture from us all. Add empathy, and decency to that.

I want to think on this for a while, but my first answer is the ability to heal from our nation’s past. If we can’t accept what we were and where that took us and how those actions affected others, we are just refusing to move forward.

Racism stole the relationship my kids could have with their grandparents away from them. It also stole a support system from me. I’m not willing to put up with their racism to make it “easier” on me, and I’m not willing to expose my kids to it.

I think unity is the first thing racism has stolen from us. I believe race was constructed to created divisions between all people. The next thing I think of true free will because all choices within a rigged game are inherently made under subtle coercion. Then I start thinking about how colonizers squashed cultures and erased knowledge and I start wondering if we would live in patriarchy without racism… I wonder what the world would look like if people of all races were given the opportunities to learn and travel and own land that white people have always had…. I think racism has stolen more from all of us than any of us is capable of truly wrapping our minds around

This is a hard question to answer in a tik tok comment. A sense of Community and belonging and deeper connections are a few things it has stolen. I’m not finding it easy to describe and so look forward to seeing others responses.

I don't feel like it has stolen anything from me, as I'm a white person. Everything that initially came up, feels more like it was stolen from poc, with the impacts carried over to me as well as the things that initially came up have been stolen from me due to white supremacy in other systems of oppression. such as Abelism.
