Big government sucks!!! They already have their grubby paws on way too many things in our personal lives.

I rewired a kitchen and failed inspection because the house had been previously rewired without a permit. Wouldn’t pass the kitchen until the whole house was rewired again under a new permit

This gotta be grand fathered in old homes forget about it . I think the inspector should obviously red flag major hazards but you situation seems annoying

There absolutely needs to be some sort of discretion for grand fathered in utilities however for the Permit aspect of this situation, I would’ve switched it under the owner’s name so that would relieve me from having an open permit under my name for something that was not my fault

There needs to be some discretion on remodeling. Did it meet code when installed?

Was the panel existing? As long as you didn’t add panel should be under re Hab , he’s wrong, but if you piss him off you’ll never pass another inspection

I think that the panel should be grand-fathered in. The inspectors I deal with in Canada only make me bring the circuit I’m working on up to code (usually…).Put in an arc fault breaker if it’s got plugs on it, but to have him call out the panel and make the client put in a new door is ridiculous… I know we need them for Saftey but this is why so many home owners are scared to get the permits pulled. The inspector should be able to make observations and point out things but not enforce something that already there unless is dangerous or life threatening. Just a guys opinion though 🤷♂️

Was there a sticker from previous inspection? Them are 2 items that are expensive to move and need permits to move so someone signed off on it already. Totally know what you’re dealing with. Our new inspector is that way.
