If he’s anything like my husky was after her shave it will remain like that forever her hair wasn’t as soft anymore and was like the guard hairs was poky and that’s why they say never shave a husky it won’t grow back the same

He needs some deshed treatments with conditioning. His coat is in “coat shock” and it needs help to release the dead undercoat and moisture to help the new hair growth. Maybe get him on a fish oil supplement as well!

You need to do some heavy deshedding. That “dead” hair is the undercoat growing out faster than the guard hairs and restricting it. Deshedding the undercoat frequently thru the regrowth will help it

25 year groomer here. It's not dead, the undercoat is what comes in first, then the top coat. Texture will be different until the top coat comes back. He needs a good bath & brush out with a conditioning treatment. Are you brushing him properly? Regular brushing will help stimulate the coat to grow.

It takes a long time for the outer coat to grow out jsut give it time you can see where the softer hairs are coming in what you are feeling right now is his coarse undercoat not dead hair jsut his undercoat that grows in quicker. It jsut takes longer for the outer coat to grow in. A lot of people give up and as long as you keep going on working on it it’ll get there 🧡

I’m sorry this happened to you. Unfortunately dog grooming is an unregulated industry so there are a lot of people who do not know what they are doing. We deal this this kind of stuff a lot. If you want it to grow back properly regular consistent removal of the under coat which grows much faster then the guard coat is needed. You can also talk to your vet about a low dose of melatonin as some research shows it can help support coat recovery. I recommend Ive’

Once he has his next shed cycle and he gets a blow out his guard hair will start to come out I think in another 6 months it will even look a lot better
