He was obsessed with the idea of her in his head. This is why it's never came to fruition for him. He was in love with someone that didn't exist. He wanted to go back, to repeat the past, in that moment that it was only them and she "loved" him. But you can't repeat the past and he is chasing a dream that will never be. Poor poor Gatsby, he truly believed money would help him get Daisy, but in the end none of it mattered. Gatsby is my favorite character from the book. I teach AP English. ☺
