I live across the street from an elementary school. The kids are great and we love living here, but the parents park in our driveway, fill our trash cans with their own bags, blast music for an hour before pickup parked in front of our house, and throw their fast food wrappers and cigarettes out into the street. The admin is great about sending out reminders that they have to be good neighborhood citizens but the parents are always surprised when we tell them to get out of our driveway because “where are we supposed to park?”

I live across the street from a high school. People are just so inconsiderate. I’m constantly picking up trash that just gets tossed in my yard. The street is no parking but is never enforced until we had to file complaints with the city because people would park in front of my driveway or block garbage cans, I’ve even seen parents and students use their cars to push my garbage cans together to fit their car in the spot. People constantly cutting through my or my neighbors yards just leaving gates open. People parking in my driveway to wait for their kid after school. It’s actually astonishing what people do sometimes.

Our school is super strict about this! Our elementary is smack in the middle of a neighborhood on a busy street. Last year a parent was dumping a water bottle out of his truck and almost dumped it all over my son.

This is why I remind my students that our school community also includes those who live around campus! Pretty much all our kids live in the neighborhood too, but it’s important to remind them.
