I honestly think one of the reasons why he's not finishing it (outside of fans obviously) is because she realizes he cannot finish into books like he promised. I have reread the ones that are out so far and there is so much plot that I don't think he can finish them in two books. he already had to divide up one book to make Feast and Dance. and I have feeling he's going to have to do that with Wind and Spring as well. Because there is no way they can finish it up in two books. with Daenerys still in essos, the dragons that are currently the size of large horses basically, And the number of plot points going on in Westeros that don't even include whatever it is the Others are going to do.

maybe his heart isn't in it anymore. GRRM helped write the lore for elden ring so it's kind of obvious he is working on other projects.
