I walked in 18 pairs of sneakers and sandals so you don’t have to. 👟 As someone who’s walked hundreds of miles across Europe (and is currently training for a 190-mile hike), I’m always on the hunt for shoes that are actually comfortable—not just cute on Instagram. Some of these were immediate nos. Some totally surprised me. And a few are now coming with me on future trips. From zero-drop sneakers to travel sandals, I tested them all so you can find the best shoes for walking, travel, and everyday life. 👟 SNEAKERS Hoka: My tried-and-true favorite—cushy and reliable, though a bit tight on my toes. Altra: Incredible toe box and breathability, but zero drop takes some getting used to. Wide Toe Box: Affordable with a roomy fit, but the arch support felt all wrong. Immediate no. Topo Ultraventure: Extremely comfortable with a familiar feel, though slightly snug in the toes. Jack: Super cushiony, but way too bouncy and gave me a weird slipping feeling. FitVille: Great fit and price—very similar to Altra, though the sides felt a bit hard. Bronax: Extremely lightweight and affordable, but reviews say durability can be an issue. Nortiv 8: Great value and support, though the arch hit my foot in an odd spot. ☀️ SANDALS Reef: Pretty leather straps and lightweight, but I felt a little unstable walking in them. Rihero: Cute with gold hardware and Velcro straps, though too stiff for all-day wear. Chaco: Secure, comfortable, and well made—but definitely on the clunky side. Toms: Cute as heck but not made for walking. Immediate no. Teva: Ugly? Maybe. The most comfortable walking sandal? Absolutely. Cushionaire: Shockingly comfy for a backless sandal, but not one I'd wear for miles. SOFT: Beautiful leather and hidden Velcro make these a real contender. Dolce Vita: Stylish and lightweight, but more of an elevated flip-flop than a walking sandal. Keen: Surprisingly classy and fantastic on uneven terrain—I liked these way more than expected.
