@meghannmcuniff: The first witness in Cardi B's civil assault trial was the woman suing her. Emani Ellis claims Cardi scratched her face with a fingernail during a confrontation in February 2018 at an obstetrics and gynecology medical center in Beverly Hills, California, where Ellis worked security and Cardi had a pregnancy checkup. Cardi's lawyer Peter Anderson cross-examined Ellis on Monday (August 25), and he questioned her about her claim that Cardi's finger actually contacted her face. He played a clip from her deposition in which she said it was in her face but didn't state contact had occurred. Anderson is a partner at Davis Wright Tremaine LLP in Los Angeles who has represented many musicians in major intellectual property cases, including defending Led Zepplin in influential copyright litigation over the iconic song "Stairway to Heaven." He first represented Cardi in a federal civil trial in 2022 in which an Orange County surfer sued her claiming she wrongly used a piece of his unique back tattoo on the cover to her mixtape "Gangsta Bitch Music, Vol. 1." The jury rejected his claims, and the man had to pay Cardi's attorney fees. Also representing Cardi is Lisa Moore of Atlanta, who was one of her trial lawyers in her defamation lawsuit against YouTuber Tasha K.
