There’s probably going to be a huge dip in the market. Not saying anytime soon, but Pokémon cards are really only valuable rn because so many people are buying them again and a lot of cards are being market manipulated. I can’t even fully blame the scalpers, but they wouldn’t exist in the first place if people weren’t paying such crazy prices for cards.

Pokémon is currently trying to drive prices down. They’ve reprinted tons of prismatic evolution sets to try and drown out the scalper market. It’s late but at least it’s something. I just hope they don’t give up until they make scalpers realize that they’ll just devalue the cards, and make it fun again

I feel like this applies for both Pokémon and magic cards. Their both overpriced even though it costs almost nothing to make the cards

Part of the price is just how hard the pull is 1/45 packs is the highest rarity 5$ a pack is MSRP to pull any hit that rare is 225$ furthermore the Umbreon itself is just 1/31 options that averages out to 3500 to pull it only buying packs at MSRP. so the (current) 900 to buy it raw is actually somewhat fair given it's the most desirable of the 31. ofc the high price of nearly 1700 was inflated but please understand that price of the cards is at least equally the pokemon companies fault for creating cards so rare. This can be seen in the Japanese version of the same card (300 for the same Umbreon) being so much cheaper just because of the higher hit rate in the Japanese packs

Being a kid in 2025 is honestly sad to think about, most outside kid friendly places have closed down, a lot of kid friendly websites died out too, game prices are insane, cheap hobbies like collecting cards where overrun by adult collectors that buy everything to resell. Even stuff like mangas or comics are crazy expensive. And then people wonder why kids don’t have hobbies outside of like Roblox.

its soooo embarassing. the whole fun of pokemon cards is meant to be TRADING. hence "trading card game." now people who dont want to buy from scalpers are basically forced to anyways if they want to keep playing

It became expensive bc of influencers about 5 years ago, I’ve been collecting for 19 years since I’ve been a kid and it makes me so sad because it makes the hobby so difficult and you end up just struggling to find MSRP prices in actual retail stores 😔

As an adult who still occasionally buys cards I hate all of this. I have opened every single pack that I have ever bought. I love the art. Toys should be loved and played with not held hostage!

It’s crazy cuz we control the prices. If no one pays scalper rates, it goes down on its own eventually. But there’s always one basement dweller willing to ruin it for everyone 😔

I literally went to a card shop yesterday and got so excited when I saw a blooming waters box, but they made an otherwise $60 bundle cost $120 dollars. It’s ridiculous

To be honest I never understood it to begin with because Nintendo already puts to high prices on the card for it to be enjoyed by the target audience. It’s in a way gatcha. So yes I don’t like either I think sure it’s fun to get a surprise collection but there should be a way to buy specific cards directly - to not if you are unlucky have the same common cards a thousand times and the same rare ones never because why should other kids want to exchange them so this always felt like a corrupted system more so now. So yes I hope they don’t make money on it either but sadly we all know they are always people who do buy it for the inflated price.

I chose the wrong time to try and learn the card game lol I can only play online currently. But it is especially heartbreaking that kids can’t feel the joy I felt when I opened cards as a child

My oldest kid wants to collect Pokemon cards and luckily because of where we are, they aren't *always* sold out, but it's still way too often. 😒 I despise scalpers!
