It’s positive when tapping on the cheek in front of the ear causes the lip to curl on the ipsilateral (same) side. It’s classically associated with hypocalcaemia and results from hyperexcitability of the facial nerve (CN VII) But like many clinical signs, although they make easy exam answers, in practice, chvosteks sign is also found in 10-25% of patients with normal Ca2+ levels! 💡 it’s also found in tetany and hypomagnesaemia! #doctor #medical #nurse #medico #usmle #mbbs
