@shanemorrisdotsucks: I refuse to be upset about this Wired article because I understand how media and influence campaigns work. These campaigns require budgets, money, messaging, and cohesiveness that can only be achieved through working with multiple people. I don't see why we're upset that influencers we know are getting paid after they built up platforms when we know that the other side is also being paid by special interest groups. This is how the game is played right now. If you're upset about it, you need to change the rules of the game. Don't get mad at people who spend a lot of time, often years, building up these platforms so they can finally get paid. This is their job. This is what they do. I'm not a full-time influencer, so I can't really comment on it, but I do have a large audience and I don't think anybody would bemoan me for making money off the audience I built. @suzanne lambert @David Pakman #respectthehustle #howthesausageismade #fauxoutrage @Taylor Lorenz

Taylor Lorenz :
I agree with this video EXCEPT the super restrictive nature of the contact, which is not fair to creators imo. Also their lawyer talking about flouting FEC regulations 😵💫

It’s the dishonesty and secrecy that’s the problem.

I mean... they're making content by posting clips of trump doing and saying awful things lol every news outlet has an EIC that makes the final call about what hits the page. Ms Lorenz writes well, but picked some low hanging fruit... but maybe she'll usher in an age where she is no longer allowed to read the articles she was once allowed to write

The Democratic Party has a 19% approval rating and these creators were being paid to shill for that historically unpopular party. They also weren’t allowed to endorse any candidates, so they weren’t able to use their platform to effectively leverage any change to that party. This will only help Trump.

I mean, Tim Poole was making $100k/episode to push a Russia Today script. Content creators on tiktok getting $8k/mo to do what they'd likely be doing anyways? not mad about it

I wasn't invited to this ball, but I would've taken issue with restrictions on what I could talk about. That doesn't sit right with me.

I like Taylor, but I think there's inaccuracies in her reporting (which you addressed in your next vid) Also I agree. Why is this a problem? The left sucks at messaging. At least someone is finally organizing something to boost & streamline messaging. The right has been doing this same thing since the 90s on AM radio. It needs to happen & people need to be getting $$ to make it happen.

The issue is if they can be bought by democrats then they can be bought by republicans.

we are just tired of the lying & the secrecy. this could have been done so much better as like, "democrats have realized they aren't reaching people any more so they have decided to partner with us to help reach you, but more importantly hear you better. leave comments about what Democrats can do for you & I will pass the message along."

Said it elsewhere- I assume everyone has an angle (personal or paid). People get to wrapped up in purity politics on the left.

I appreciate you laying it out. Influencers are gig workers, it’s a gig. Agree with the message or not, it pays the bills. Flick peas at the wall sorta thing.

Not mad at them getting $$, I think we're mad at the contractual obligation to secrecy and the possibility of them not having full control over their content

Have you seen the backend of it? I backed out bc they tell you what to say. They have to approve everything including in many cases your interactions with politicians and what you say about them. I won’t sell out cheap but I’ll quit.

i mean, you don’t see any issue with these creators being told not to talk about gaza? i don’t care about the money, this is how the game is played, the issue is ignoring the elephant in the room for the sake of money

Those people they highlighted are not great people either Parnas shows heavy biases especially with Gaza and Juliana Olivia was just heavy grifting that’s been harming the scene

I think the hubbub is that people should not be accepting money from political affiliations to push political biased information. Because at that point, we can no longer trust what we thought were regular people and not mainstream media that we could trust

I haven’t looked into it - but the comments I’ve seen that seem like legit complaints are about the content moderation. Idk how true it is so it could all be bs - but that part is the complaint I’ve seen most coherently.
