@andrewmholness: A last minute promise by the Opposition is to raise the income tax threshold from $1.8 million to $3.5 million. This is not relief for the people, it is a reckless scheme that would blow a $75 billion hole in Jamaica’s budget and cripple the very programmes that keep our country moving forward. Only about 127,000 people, or 9 percent of the workforce, would benefit. The other 91 percent of Jamaican workers would get nothing. Meanwhile, ordinary taxpayers would be left carrying the burden as critical investments are cut. To put it in perspective, $75 billion is almost the entire national security budget and would impact spending on our children’s schools, our hospitals, our water supply, our roads. This is not new. In the past, the PNP presided over the largest transfer of wealth from the poor to the rich in Jamaica’s history, something one of their very own admitted. Their approach has always been the same, short term gimmicks that look good on paper but devastate the country in reality. By contrast, this Government is investing responsibly. Through the SPARK programme, 660 roads are being upgraded, with more to come. Over $10 billion is being spent on water projects this year alone, including the Northwestern Water Resilience Project and the Greater Mandeville Water Supply Project. These are real solutions that touch the lives of millions of Jamaicans. The choice is clear: reckless promises that would bankrupt the future, or disciplined leadership that is building a stronger Jamaica for every citizen.

Very true. Moving the threshold to $3.5 million wouldn't benefit most of the 1.4 workers. However, reducing the P.A.Y E from 25% to 15% wil not benefit most of the 1.4 million workers either.

No disrespect to anyone but to be honest the only reason why a lot of people not gonna vote for jlp is because the party is mostly focused on talking about what PNP did nearly 20+ years ago and they had problems with something the PM did plus the jlp is talking about what they did, It is amazing that they lead the country to where it is now but the people want more than that because they see the economy and will be comparing it to the Jamaican economy

We are rejecting this because it is a reckless decision and dem can't even properly explain how it will be funded. They are relying on future growth to offset the bleeding. This is asinine and like I said reckless.

when I looked into it that's the same analogy I csme up with, the rich will benefit and the middle class will be the tax horse, the same way they were back in pnp time and on top of it we had to endure a wage freeze for four years with the meagre salary...time come fi choose Jamaica
